ANSYS, Inc. is an engineering simulation software (computer-aided engineering, or CAE) developer.

Category of SoftwareCFD & Engineering
What is ANSYS

Use of ANSYS is normally via Fluent or CFX

How to useLicensed. Please contact MCC to get access.

Fluent is a program for modeling fluid flow and heat transfer in complex geometries.

CFX is a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Engineering package. CFX contains:

  • Advanced coupled multigrid linear solver technology
  • meshing flexibility
  • parallel enabled
  • pre- and post-processing capabilities

Examples of uses include:  multiple frame of reference, turbulence, combustion and radiation, Eulerian two phase and free surface flow.

In addition, CFX offers an open architecture that encourages customization on all levels. Both input and results are in accessible formats that allow easy customization.

Example on how to run FLUENT
#$ -S /bin/tcsh

# save results in current working directory
#$ -cwd

# job name set to "rotor"
#$ -N rotor

# use 2 cores on a single compute node
#$ -pe smp 2

# 12 hour time limit
#$ -l h_rt=12:00:00

# 4G memory
#$ -l h_vmem=4G

# location of *.jou file
cd /nfs/home/hpceng/EagerStudent/Fluent/

# load Fluent module
module load fluent/15.0

# run Fluent (options specified using Fluent command line language)
fluent -r15.0.0 3ddp -g -i rotor.jou

Restart jobs
If you need to run Fluent for a very long time we suggest you
investigate doing checkpoint/restart to run the one long job as a
sequence of shorter self-submitting jobs. Each job writes out restart
files which are then used as input to the next job.

Example on how to run CFX
#$ -S /bin/tcsh

# save results in current working directory
#$ -cwd

# job name set to "wall0000"
#$ -N wall0000

# use 8 cores on a single compute node
#$ -pe smp 8

# 24 hour time limit
#$ -l h_rt=24:00:00

# 16G memory
#$ -l h_vmem=16G

# location of CFX *.def file
cd /nfs/home/hpceng/EagerStudent/CFX/production4/mesh060/wall0000

# load CFX v15.0 module
module load cfx/15.0

# run cfx5solve (options are specified using CFX command line language)
cfx5solve -def CFX.def -double -initial-file CFX_001.res -par-local -partition 8 -size 1.2
